Full flex

Short rods have something very special about them - theyre obviously, well, short.

The thing with short rods is not really the length itself, they can be very effective if used the right way and in the right place.

The problem is their action. Especially with short glass rods. A 6ft 3wt glass rod is a fantastic tool and flexes to a near circle if you want to. But independent of the rod length, the grip length stays the same as for, lets say a 9ft rod. In percentage this is now around 10% instead of the 6.6% for the 9ft rod.

What is happening? The relatively longer grip kills the action of the blank. The rod feels dead.

What do we do to overcome this and maintain the smooth bending curve of such light blanks? We make a ventilated grip. Instead if gluing cork rings on top of each other there is a gap between each and every ring. This is quite a bit of work, but it pays off. When casting this rod it flexes all the way down to the reel seat. A fight with a big brown on such a rod is an adventure for itself - you can literally feel every fin-kick and head shake.

Feel the difference.

- Ventilated grip for full flex action -

- Minimalistic real seat -

- Close and personal -
